Using the DGSonicFocus App to match headphones to your individual hearing at the eardrum.
Published at : 20 Dec 2020
The DGSonicFocus App uses a non-invasive equal loudness test to match the spectrum at the eardrum from a headphone to the spectrum at the eardrum from a frequency-flat frontal loudspeaker. This video shows how to use the app to (1) equalize a small speaker to be frequency flat, (2) use the equalized speaker to find your personal equal loudness spectra at the eardrum, and (3) use the same test to find the eardrum spectrum while wearing the headphones. The app then calculates the needed equalization. The resulting sound is startlingly real, with frontal localization and accurate timbre. The data can be viewed and ported to other equipment. The app is working now on cellphones, Windows, Mac, VST3 and AAX platforms.
As of 12/11/20 the app is still not on the Google and Apple play stores. This may happen in a week or so. I will probably put the computer versions in a dropbox folder relatively soon. I will post the link here when it is available. We are still working with Avid to make get the AAX licence available.
Leave a comment here or send me an email if you are interested in trying the older version. I will send you a link. Check for updates on www.dgsonicfocus.com.
