I’m a proponent of having an expensive bike if you can afford it and if you think it’s a valuable use of your money. The problem with nice bikes is that they can be so nice, they stop being useful and stop being fun. This is The Dark Side of Nice Bikes.
Yes, I have a nice bike, I love riding my nice bike, and I’m thankful that I get to ride and own a nice bike. They’re more reliable, they have a nicer ride quality that encourages you to ride more, and if you love cycling, you can appreciate the feeling of owning a nice bike. Nice bikes are not inherently bad, but owning one isn’t all corgis in hand baskets, and speaking from experience, it comes with its own set of potential problems.
Here are the problems of owning an expensive bike, so you can determine if building an expensive bike is worth it for you.
