One Hundred Thirty Year Old Douglas fir moves indoors to live on as tribal Great Table
Published at : 27 Dec 2020
We wanted a new Great Table for our cabin. And we wanted to craft it from a tree grown on this land. We commercially thinned our forest in 2017 and we harvested all Douglas fir affected by Dwarf Mistletoe. We saved the largest of these for our table. Just as I started to slab the tree, my old Stihl O66 gave up the ghost. Miraculously, my friend Kevin jumped in with his even bigger Stihl MS880 and even bigger Alaska Chainsaw Mill and we slabbed the tree over two days. Kevin, THANK YOU! We dried the slabs for three years. Finally, my great and wonderfully skilled friend Two Canoes helped us bring the table to life.
