6) What is Velocity and instantaneous velocity?
In conclusion, speed and velocity are kinematic quantities that have distinctly different definitions. Speed, being a scalar quantity, is the rate at which an object covers distance.
The average speed is the distance (a scalar quantity) per time ratio. Speed is ignorant of direction
Definition: When the speed of an object is constantly changing, the instantaneous speed is the speed of an object at a particular moment (instant) in time.
To calculate instantaneous speed, we need to divide part of the total distance traveled by time.
However, we don't want to use the distance of the entire trip, because that will give us average speed. We use a small distance of the trip.
Average speed is the speed averaged over a span of time. Usually the total distance covered divided by the total time span.
Instantaneous speed would be the speed any any given instant within that span of time, measured with a real time speedometer
Instantaneous velocity is the velocity of an object in motion at a specific point in time. This is determined similarly to average velocity, but we narrow the period of time so that it approaches zero.
If an object has a standard velocity over a period of time, its average and instantaneous velocities may be the same.
