CEO of COSBOA Peter Strong says employers are concerned that unless the coronavirus vaccine is made mandatory for employees, employers will be held liable if a customer or a fellow worker gets the virus.
“Our big concern is liability,” Mr Strong said.
“We know Safe Work Australia who makes up the OHS rules always wants to make the employers liable for everything and that just doesn’t work in a pandemic.
“We want certainty for employers so they know they can have a safe workplace and they know they can’t get sued one person makes a decision not to do anything.”
Mr Strong said his company would assist the government in producing information regarding the vaccine to help people decide whether or not to take the jab.
“We’ve got to get the information out there to help people make that decision because this is all a very new situation,” he said.
“But we’ve got to make sure we aren’t liable for someone else’s behaviour.”
