Under the tenure of Bill Barr as Attorney General, the Department of Justice grotesquely morphed in a criminal defense firm for Donald Trump, his family and his criminal associates. With Attorney General nominee Merrick Garland, the DOJ is about to return to its traditional role as the people's law firm. Moreover, other Trump/Barr lackeys will soon be shown the door as President Biden and AG Garland begin populating the DOJ with honorable, ethical, law-enforcing US Attorney.
Lost in the mix given recent events is the fact that acting DC US Attorneys Time Shea and Michael Sherwin may have tanked investigations into Don Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, Steve Bannon, Erik Prince and Sam Clovis. Recall that a bipartisan group of senators from the Senate Intelligence Committee referred those five men for criminal investigation for potentially lying before the Committee and we never heard a single thing about those criminal referrals. Given that Sherwin and Shea are the same ones who did favors for Trump's criminal associates Roger Stone and Mike Flynn, there is no telling what they did with the criminal referrals of Don Jr., Kushner, Bannon and the others.
What impact will these changes at the DOJ and the US Attorney's Office have on the nature of ongoing investigations? Here's the take of a 30-year federal prosecutor . . .
