NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet says his government will have “something to announce in the next 48 hours” on land tax relief for residential and commercial landlords.
He also urged councils to do their bit and provide relief for landlords amid the coronavirus crisis.
“The Commonwealth government is providing significant support, all state governments are working together across political lines, the banks are doing their part, and I think it is important that councils lift their game,” he said.
“Councils could be looking at waiving rates for landlords who pass on rent reductions to their tenants… I think the councils have been pretty quiet.”
Mr Perrottet said that given the current state of the economy, he would legislate a public service pay freeze before June 30.
Meanwhile, Mr Perrottet said it was" obviously very disappointing” Don Harwin was caught disobeying stay-at-home orders.
NSW Arts Minister Don Harwin was this week pictured at his Central Coast holiday house, almost 100 kilometres from his Sydney home.
Mr Perrottet said “we can’t have a situation where it’s ‘do as I say and not as I do’”.
“It’s frustrating and very disappointing and it’s a time for ministers to be leading by example,” he said.
When asked if Mr Harwin should be sacked, Mr Perrottet said that was “above my paygrade” but said the minister could face a fine should the NSW Police Commissioner decide to issue one.
