NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian confirmed on Monday she would not decide what restrictions would be in place over Christmas until Wednesday morning.
Ms Berejiklian announced New South Wales recorded 15 locally acquired cases of the coronavirus overnight to Monday – all of which were directly linked to the Avalon cluster.
Sky News reporter Charlotte Mortlock said news of 15 new cases on Monday, half of what was seen on Sunday was “certainly a step in the right direction”.
“This is an ongoing and evolving situation; we know how contagious the virus is,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“There could be very well developments in the next few hours which causes us again to go back to the number of cases we’ve seen in the last few days.
“I appreciate how frustrating it is, and I’d love to be able to tell everybody today what Christmas might look like today or in the Northern Beaches, but we’re not in a position to do that.”
