On October 23, 2014, keynote speaker Elizabeth Anne Kinsella, Ph.D.., presented "Reclaiming Practical Wisdom in Qualitative Inquiry: Imagining Possibilities in Research Professional Practices," at the 20th Annual Midwest Qualitative Research Conference. Dr. Kinsella, an associate professor in the faculty of health sciences at Western University-Canada, imagined the possibilities in reclaiming practical wisdom (or what Aristotle called phronesis) in qualitative inquiry, particularly with respect to research aimed at generating knowledge relevant for professional practice. Practical wisdom implies ethics, deliberation based on values, practical judgment, reflection, and more. What might taking it seriously offer to qualitative inquiry, to researching professional practices, and to generating professional knowledge?
