Artist Talk: NY Family + Playlab Talk held in conjunction with HTXDesignWeek

Dong-Ping Wong of Family and Archie Lee Coates IV of PlayLab Inc. present a dual lecture on their partner projects and radical work. The two Brooklyn-based firms (which could be loosely called an architecture firm and a creative office) blend design disciplines like architecture, design, and art installations to realize their visions and (dare we say) make a splash. Wong and Coates, with their respective companies, are co-founders of + POOL, the world’s first water-filtering floating pool—AND one of the world’s largest crowd-funded civic projects. The two firms also collaborated on “The Worms,” a project that re-imagined the idea of the outdoor event tent for NYC’s StreetFest.
Dong-Ping Wong is an architect and founding partner of Family, a New York-based design studio that specializes in building environments and pushing boundaries. Familynewyork.com & @familynewyork
Archie Lee Coates IV is a partner at PlayLab, Inc., an extremely multi-disciplinary New York art office founded in 2009. With no particular focus, PlayLab explores things that interest them, using art, architecture, and graphic design to initiate ideas.
